Terminology Guide
A reference for terms used across the Glemorowy service — November 2026
This guide explains the terms and concepts used throughout the Glemorowy service and its associated documentation. Understanding these terms will help you navigate the platform more effectively and interpret the information it presents.
The definitions below reflect how each term is used within the Glemorowy context specifically. Some of these terms have broader meanings in other contexts; the definitions here apply to how they function within this service.
Core Concepts
Classification
The process by which the service assigns items of information to one or more defined categories. Classification is applied consistently using a fixed set of criteria for each category. When you browse the platform, the classification of each item is visible within its presentation context.
Classification Hierarchy
The structured set of categories used by the service, arranged from broad to specific. Top-level categories encompass large groupings of related information. Within each top-level category, subcategories divide the content further. Users navigate this hierarchy by moving between levels.
Category
A named grouping within the classification hierarchy. Each category has a defined scope — meaning there are criteria that determine whether a given item of information belongs within it. Categories at lower levels of the hierarchy are narrower in scope than those at higher levels.
Information Item
A discrete piece of information held within the platform. Each information item belongs to one or more categories within the classification hierarchy. When viewed through the review interface, an item is displayed with its classification context visible.
Structured Observation
A description of a pattern or relationship visible across a set of classified information. Structured observations are derived from the content of the classification system itself and describe what is present within it. They do not represent independent analysis or predictive assessments.
Interface Terms
Review Interface
The view within the platform where individual information items are displayed. The review interface presents the content of an item alongside its classification context, making it easier to understand the item's place within the wider information set.
Navigation Panel
The part of the platform interface that displays the classification hierarchy and allows users to move between category levels. The navigation panel reflects the user's current position within the hierarchy and makes it possible to step up or down between levels.
Session
A period of interaction with the platform, beginning when a user logs in or begins accessing the service and ending when they close their access. Within a session, the platform maintains the user's position in the classification hierarchy and any active category filters.
Active Filter
A constraint applied to the user's view of the classification hierarchy that limits the items displayed to those meeting a specific criterion. Active filters can be combined to narrow the view further. Removing an active filter returns the view to its unfiltered state within the current category level.
Access Scope
The set of categories within the classification hierarchy that a particular user is authorised to review. Access scope is determined at the time a user's access is set up, based on the information provided during the enquiry process. Users can request an extension of their access scope through a new enquiry.
Enquiry and Support Terms
Enquiry
A message submitted through the Enquire page or by email, asking about the service or requesting access. Enquiries are reviewed by the Glemorowy support team, who respond with relevant guidance. An enquiry is the starting point for arranging access to the platform.
Access Request
A specific type of enquiry in which the submitter is seeking to gain access to the platform or to an additional category of information within their existing access scope. Access requests are treated as a subset of the general enquiry process and follow the same review steps.
Support Team
The Glemorowy team members responsible for reviewing enquiries, responding to user questions, and providing guidance on the service. The support team can be reached via the Enquire page or at [email protected].
Clarification Request
A follow-up message from the support team asking for additional information about an enquiry. A clarification request does not indicate that a request has been declined; it indicates that the team needs more context before responding fully. Users should reply to clarification requests with as much relevant information as they are able to provide.
Using This Guide
If you encounter a term used elsewhere on this site that is not explained here, or if a definition here does not resolve your question, please use the Enquire page to contact the support team. The team is able to explain any aspect of the service in more detail on request.
